Studying for an online masters degree has not totally been all rosy and nice, there are also setbacks. In my last post, I highlighted a few tips which I believe are the advantages of studying for a masters degree online, however, let’s not fail to remember that all that glitters are not gold.
Notwithstanding the fact that I have been able to enjoy a very flexible online school calendar, there have also been major setbacks that have made me sometimes wonder if I have completely made a wrong choice.
Last night I could not help but think out loud, “Is the decision to study online the greatest mistake of my life?”, now hold on and let me explain how I got to where I am now.
Do you recall that I once narrated to my blog readers how much fun I was having just because I made the decision to study online? Well… I’m not regretting, however I am writing this post so other persons who hope to venture into online masters degree programs can adequately prepare for the journey.
Below are my challenges so far in my quest for an online masters degree study
1. Challenges Of Online Masters Degree - Poor internet:
Whenever you hear the word ‘online’ the first thing that should come to your mind is the internet. How did I make a colossal mistake? I didn’t consider the unfortunate internet service providers we have in this my 3rd world country.
Sometime I have to toggle between one internet service provider for the other just to b able to get online, and this is really stressful I must admit.
2. Challenges Of Online Masters Degree - Internet subscription
Since I started this masters degree program, I have continually spent a considerable amount of money on internet subscriptions.
Personally I never really enjoyed watching videos online, YouTube and facebook videos would not have won me over, even if it was the end of the world… this was how I was able to use much less data. However, since I started to study for my online degree, I have thus realized that I pay so much for internet access.
It’s more saddening that I have to pay for things I once already had, and for the sake of bad internet conditions, I often have to recharge other modems with internet just in order to keep up with online class activities.
